I know a lot of people want to lose fat super fast. Yes! That is a dream! I can put myself there but I must tell you that there are no real short cuts to losing weight. Hey, but don’t lose hope. Today, I want to write a post about some ways that you CAN lose fat easily.

 I am not going to tell you to eat less as losing weight is NOT about eating less. But taking the right kind of food in the right time and at the same time enjoy eating what you like – now that is the real diet, right? Wow that was a mouthful!

 IF you want to lose weight fast, then you have to opt for drastic methods. I will mention a couple:

This morning, I woke up thinking that it is the weekend – and I can sleep over. But when the alarm went off again, I realized that it was NOT the weekend!. Eeeeeeks! I jumped off the bed and then it hit me. My exercise routine! Oh!!!!! I was not in the mood at all for that! What to do, what to do!!!

 “No, you have to do it, you need to do it, you need it more than it needs you …”, I kept telling myself. Ok, I made myself get up and follow the routine and then while making breakfast, I thought to myself that I need to write a post on why we should exercise. So here I go pushing my motivation button.

 Many us need to follow an exercise program, in order to remain healthy and of course there are some who do it to lose weight. That is how I started out years ago.

 Now to motivate you, here are some good reasons why you should start exercising now.

 1.  Contributes to weight loss

It is well proven from scientific research that physical exercise contributes to weight loss.  If you burn more calories than you “devour” through nutrition, you’ll lose weight. Exercising the Right Way

Aerobic excercise

When I was just getting into fitness craze, I had wondered about aerobic exercises. Since then, I have gathered that there are two main types of exercise that you can do – aerobic and anaerobic.  Aerobic simply means with oxygen and the type of exercise has an important feature in that it burns fat as the main fuel. 

However, anaerobic exercise, burns sugar as the main source of fuel.  Both types of exercise seems like harsh ways to provide enormous benefits. That is false though. They do not have to be drastic at all. Light exercises still burn fat. Additionally, light exercises will clear wasteful substance called lactic acid and causes cells to regenerate.

It is beneficial to burn fat so we need to know why type of exercise will help do this. When you work out, be sure that you always breathe in deep into your belly through your nose, hold it your breathe for a few seconds and then breath our hard through your mouth. This is the first thing you need to remember and act on.

Secondly, make sure that you exercise comfortably, i.e., you should be able to hold a normal conversation while you are working out. Keep this up for about 45 minutes and you will notice how much energy you have!

I know that finding time to exercise is difficult – not because we don’t have time but some of us are just plain lazy! Think about it; we can find time to sleep or watch TV or even sit around doing nothing. Try to do some exercise instead of sleeping, you will find that you will need less sleep than before! If you have lunch break, why not use the time to do some light exercise. You will have an added advantage as you will be energized and this will increase in you overall productivity. Use any break you have at work to take on some type of movement and deep breathing.

Remember that any type of exercise certainly benefit your heart.  It will make it a stronger and thus more effective in its functions.  Deep breathing will help your lungs become stronger and larger as well.  There is study now that links exercise to helping benefit and almost prevent all types of disease or ailment. So please make sure you get plenty of it. A word of warning though; don’t get all excited and start over exercising. I will write soon about the dangers of too much exercise!

Movement of the joints will promote proper blood flow. If you are sitting down for hours on end, make sure to walk around every 45 minutes for about 10 minutes. This will get the circulation moving and promotes blood flow to brain, heart and other organs.

 Devote just a little bit of time to exercise and you will find yourself more energetic and healthier.


What Is The Right Exercise For You

 I know, I know! Its that dreaded thing that everyone is preaching about. EXCERCISE! But, hey, you want to get rid of that fat, right? Nothing is achieved until we work for it. Yup! That’s what I always say. I hate work outs too. I tried several programs, only to start off with vigor and then slowly pale out of existence.

Regular excercise is important for our general health whether it is for losing weight or not. However if your intent is to lose fat, then the type of exercise you choose matters.

Mosty it also depends on you and what you like to do. Why is this so important? Mainly because, if you opt for something that you dislike then its most probable that you are not going to keep it going for a long period and excercise is something that we all should be doing daily. For example, if you do not like jogging, then you will find that getting up early in the morning and go running to be very burdensome and you are not going to enjoy it.

Give it some thought – and choose something that you are going to love doing. If you cannot come up with anything then think of what things you hate the least, which will normally be walking.

Now walking is not bad at all. It is great form of exercise, as it suits all levels of fitness. Even the laziest person can do it and start a program at any time. And walking is what inspired me actually.

If you are going for a walking type of excercise, then make sure that you start at a slower rate and work youself up. It’s normally the intensity and duration that differs as you progress over a period of weeks. Walking is also a social exercise, as it isn’t difficult to find a training partner to chat with while you exercise. Walking with a partner will also make time go by faster.

No matter what exercise you choose, you should start at a low level of intensity and build it up. If you start
off too hard, you could end up with an injury which will require time off to get over and it might even put you off exercising.

You can start by walking 10 minutes a day – if you are in really in bad shape. Then, you can increase it by 5 minutes every 2 weeks. Now what is it that they say? Variety is the spice of live? Sure is! To make things more interesting, you should try walking a different course every few days. Have a friend to walk with you; why you can go walking with different friends. I know this habit will have you walking every single day! Not much for the exercise but for the enjoyment of it all. For me, I love a long walk all by myself. It gives me time to ponder and contemplate on things that I usually do not have time for. I love walking in the parks, by the pond or lake or by the shores of the beach. Wonderful.

What I learnt is that you need to walk at least 10,000 steps a day. This really works for me.

Not everyone likes to walk, so if that is not your thing, then you may want to try a fitness center. A beginner may find that a center more suitabel as he/she will have trainers on hand to answer any questions they may have. When you choose a fitness center, make sure that they give good service and they have the right type of equipments – and they are in good condition. It’s easy to find out, as all you have to do is listen to the machines. If they squeak a lot or make noise, then chances are they aren’t being taken care of.

How about sports? If you do not like going to the gym either, then you can try golf or tennis. Both are good social activities in most areas, and you can even meet new friends. Tennis is great for fitness although it requires a lot of strain and exertion. It is not something that a beginner should jump into unless you start with a coach. If you haven’t exercised in a long time, then golf may be the best activity for you.

Whatever you choose make sure it is something that you enjoy because that is the only way, you will be able to keep it up. Keeping a diary of your progress and giving youself a treat once in a while will also motivate you in the right direction.

What is it about fish and Nezine? I hear you! I have this love-hate relationship with fish food. Sometimes I just love it and other times I can’t stand it. I am aware of the various benefits of fish and sometimes I think that the moments where I have the love of fish, I should make maximum use of it!

Fish Oils – Ugh or Yumm!

We always hear about how good omega-6 and 3 are but what are they?  Numbers always confuse me and it is not easy to remember them. I think it is easier for  scientists to code food with numbers. Who are we to complain!

What are Omega-6 and 3? Today we can see more people with heart problems, high blood pressure and various other health issues. Sometimes I wonder why people are more sick now than ever before. Can all these be attributed to life changes and the way foods are packed these days?  But that I another subject for another post, perhaps.

Physicians and scientists concur that an not  taking proper omega-3 and omega-6 is causing increasing cases of heart disease, hypertension or high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, premature aging and certain kinds of cancer. Unbelievable! So is it lack of certain kinds of food that is making us sick more and more. It is beyond comprehension.

Omega-6 can be found in vegetable oils such as corn and soy oils. Omega-3 can be found in marine plankton, walnut and flax seed oils.

It is interesting to learn that a study don Eskimos in the 70’s revealed that they rarely suffer from heart diseases. The reason for this is probably the higher intake of  high-fat diet mainly from fish. Fatty fish and fish oils contain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) – which provide many health benefits.

What these fatty acids (EPA and DHA) do is that they help in preventing atherosclerosis, heart attacks, depression and various forms of cancer. Back when I used to take fish oil daily (made to take by parents), I was not aware that fish oil is useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, and ulcerative colitis. Heck, I would not even understand what these were back then! No doubt fish has proven to be beneficial to a lot more other illnesses.

This past few weeks I had a lot of fish that I am getting tired of it. I tell myself that I can’t go back to being 100% veggie. I need to rekindle my love affair with fish. I think talking more about it will help.

Fish Oil For Health

The other day, while cooking mutton stew, my mind strayed away from the project on hand and drifted to the time when I used to be strictly a veggie. So I thought today I will write on something that is not really far from this topic.

I have always been a health freak and as far back as I could remember, I have always been a vegetarian. Back then I didn’t know any better but not eating any meat or eggs was just a choice that I got used to. It was only vegetables for me. I was not aware of that completely banning these food products was not really that healthy. My parents didn’t really force me into eating meat or chicken or my diet kind of stuck into adult life. 

To a dieting person or  a health-conscious individuals, when the words oils and fats are mentioned, they will run for cover. However there are such things as good fats and bad fats. Complete avoidance of intake of oils and fats would actually be damaging – rather than beneficial – to their health.

What About Fish Oil

Being vegetarian  as a kid did not help much. A growing body needs to have all the necessary nutrients to grow healthy. So my limited food  did not keep me all well; I was sickly. So I was kept on fish oil for a while. This kept me going, so to speak!

We need fatty acids and it has to be included in our diet.

Fatty acids are divided into two groups: omega-6 and omega-3. Omega-6 can be found in vegetable oils and omega-3 in fish oils among other foods.

There are only very little difference between these two groups. However, researches in this topic reveals that too much on omega-6 leads to blood clotting and tumor growth. The opposite is true for omega-3.

Essential Part of Excercise Routine

Yesterday I talked about warming up. Let us see today how to do this in a proper manner.

Basically, it can be done in any procedure that allows the heart to beat faster. One can simply walk and jog, or if a cardiovascular equipment is available, it can be used. It is important to start at slowly and then gradually increase the pace until heart beat rate increases and the body temperature rises. Note that the pace should be in accordance to one’s current fitness level, where the activity will leave the person energized and not exhausted.

This should take generally about 3-5 minutes and longer if you are in a colder climate. After working up a light sweat, you should so some stretching. Stretching helps in developing overall flexibility, mainly in the spine, shoulder, and hip areas. The kind of stretching depends on the type of activity a person plans to take on to. For example, if one is about to play sports, the recommended kind of stretching would be the ones that are similar to that particular sports in slow motion. Make sure that the main muscles groups are stretched for 8 seconds minimum. Keep the feet moving or do leg exercises whenever the upper body is stretched. This prevents blood from collecting in the legs. Remember, one should only do stretching if the muscles are already warmed up. Do not bounce while stretching. It leads to a contraction that can result in muscle tear or pull.

Once you are done with warming up, you can proceed to do the main work out.

Did you know that just as warming up is important, it is also essential to have a cool down after you are through with the exercise. If you stop the vigorous work out suddenly then blood collects in the muscle and oxygen is blocked. When this happens, a person runs the risk of having a heart attack.
